Remember that one of the values we embrace in the Order is fasting. Though the Bible never commands us to do so, Jesus said, "when you fast," not "if you fast." He seems to presume that fasting would be a part of our spiritual lives. The uptick of fasting is that it empties us in a way that can remind us that God wants to fill us.
Try a skipping one meal, or do a 24 hour period of abstinence beginning from dusk to dusk, or a 12 hour fast from dawn to dusk...or whatever. But try something.
Fasting is a great way to slow down our lives and make us more available to God. Richard Foster wrote:
"Fasting reveals the things that control us."
It is a great way to look under the "hood" of our souls.
